Meter electronics for generating a drive signal for a vibratory flowmeter (5) 20 is provided in accordance with an embodiment of the present invention. The meter electronics 20 can include an interface 201 and processing system 203. The processing system 203 is substantially 90 degrees phase shift, and the vibratory flow meter the sensor signal 210 in order to receive the sensor signal 210, via the interface, generate a phase-shifted sensor signal ( determining a phase shift value from a frequency response of 5), and is configured to combine the phase shift value and the sensor signal 210 and the phase-shifted sensor signal in order to generate a drive signal phase (213). The processing system is configured to determine the sensor signal amplitude 214 from the sensor signal 210 and the phase-shifted sensor signal in addition, and based on the sensor signal amplitude (214) to generate a drive signal amplitude (215) wherein the drive signal phase 213 is substantially the same as the sensor signal phase (212).
