摘要：
A negative electrode active material for a rechargeable lithium battery is provided to suppress the volume expansion according to charging/discharging, by coating the surface of an active material core with polymer, and to improve the lifetime property of the rechargeable lithium battery. A negative electrode active material for a rechargeable lithium battery(100) comprises an active material core selected from the group consisting of metallic material, metallic oxides and their combinations; and a surface treatment layer which is placed on the surface of the active material core and includes a polymer with high toughness having the tensile strength more than 40MPa. The metallic material is selected from the group consisting of lithium metal, metal that can be alloyed with the lithium, lithium alloy, metal or semi-metal that can dope and dedope lithium and form lithium-containing compounds reversibly by reacting with lithium, and their combination. The negative electrode(113) for the rechargeable lithium battery comprises a current collector and the negative electrode active material formed on the current collector.
