A codebook generation method for a multi-polarized MIMO(Multi Input Multi Output) system and a device therefore are provided to generate a precoding matrix when antennas have multi-polarization by using a single-polarized precoding matrix, thereby generating a high-performance precoding matrix even by simpler operation. A single-polarized precoding matrix is assigned to diagonal blocks of plural blocks divided according to the number of polarized directions of transmission antennas(S210). A zero matrix is assigned to the rest of the blocks except the diagonal blocks(S220). A precoding matrix is generated by combining the zero matrix assigned to the rest of the blocks with the single-polarized precoding matrix assigned to the diagonal blocks(S230). The precoding matrix is reconfigured by selecting at least one column vector included in the precoding matrix according to transmission ranks corresponding to the number of data streams to be transmitted(S240-S260).
