A filter for display apparatus and a display apparatus having the same are provided to increase a transmissivity and improve brightness by using a wedge-shape black stripe. A filter for display apparatus includes a filter base(270) and an external light shielding layer(230). The external light shielding layer is formed on one side of the filter base and includes a transparent resin material(234) and a number of wedge-shaped black stripes arranged in parallel on one side of the transparent resin material. The black stripe has a bottom exposed to the outside of the transparent resin material and an inclined surface for forming a wedge-shaped groove from the bottom to the inside of the transparent resin material. The bottom is formed at one side of the transparent resin material facing a panel assembly.
