본발명의산화촉매계는, (A) 루테늄화합물과 (B) 디옥시벤젠류또는그의산화체로구성된다. 루테늄화합물 (A)에는, 디클로로트리스(트리페닐포스핀)루테늄(Ⅱ) 등의루테늄착체, Ru/C 등이포함된다. 디옥시벤젠류또는그의산화체 (B)에는히드로퀴논등이포함된다. 상기산화촉매계의존재하에분자상산소로알콜을산화시키면, 해당카르보닐화합물이높은수율로얻어진다. 제2급알콜에비하여제1급알콜이더 선택적으로산화된다.
