Apparatus for conveying a tire tread and for changing the length of tire tread. One end portion of the tread is fixed lenghtwise along the conveyor and spaced members lift the tread from the conveyor. The spaced members are sybstantially simultaneously displaced with equal increments of displacement between adjacent members, thereby shrinking or stretching the tread to a desired length.
