A method and apparatus for monitoring a control channel in a multi-carrier system is provided. Terminal method includes determining a plurality of UE-specific search space corresponding to a plurality of scheduled component carrier each in the control region in the subframe. The UE monitors the downlink control channel for the scheduled component carrier that corresponds in each of the plurality of UE-specific search space.
