Various embodiments of the present invention provide systems and methods for determining fly height. For example, fly-height determining system comprises a head assembly, a write channel, and a read circuit disposed on the storage medium is disclosed. The read circuit is operable to receive information from both the head assembly and the two-channel recording. Receiving a first signal from a read circuit that corresponds to the information received from the recording channel based on a first signal containing a first fundamental frequency and the first operation frequency determination circuit to provide a higher order frequency, the frequency determining circuit it is operable to receive the second signal from the readout circuit corresponding to the information received from the head assembly and the channel based on the second signal to provide a second base frequency, and the second higher-order frequency. Claim 1 includes the fundamental frequency of the first operable to split a high-order harmonic compensation parameter calculation module for calculating the compensation parameters. A second fundamental frequency and the second high-order harmonic compensation operable to divide the variable fly height calculation module is included to produce an indication of the distance between the head assembly and the storage medium.
