The present invention discloses a multi-stage quantization method. Multi-stage quantization method includes utilizing the step and the current phase codebook for obtaining the current stage codebook on the basis of the reference codebook and a scaling factor to obtain at the reference codebook, based on a previous stage codebook to quantize the input vector do. In another aspect, the present invention discloses a multi-stage quantization unit. According to the invention, the current stage codebook, by using the correlation between the current and the previous stage codebook stage codebook, it can be obtained on the basis of the previous stage codebook. As a result, an improvement in not requiring an independent codebook space, it is possible to save the storage space resources use efficiency for the current codebook stage (Fig. 2).
