The present invention relates to a double-stranded compound, preferably oligo ribonucleotides to down-regulating the expression of the human p53 gene. The present invention also relates to a composition comprising a carrier acceptable vector, and a pharmaceutical capable of expressing the compound, or a ribonucleotide oligonucleotide compound. The invention also contemplates a method of treating patients with alopecia or acute renal failure or other diseases, including the step of administering a therapeutically effective amount of a pharmaceutical composition to a patient to treat the patient. Alopecia can be induced by chemotherapy or radiation therapy, the patient may be suffering from cancer, especially breast cancer.
