The techniques for compensating the influence of temperature changes in the voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) frequency is disclosed. In one embodiment, the auxiliary varactor is connected to the LC tank of the VCO. Auxiliary varactor to minimize the total change in VCO frequency due to temperature has a capacitance controlled by a temperature-dependent control voltage. A technique of using a digital and analog means for generating the control voltage is further disclosed. Auxiliary varactor (Caux) is as a voltage controlled capacitor (C) in series with the LC parallel tank or may be connected to each other. In one embodiment, the temperature across the first current proportional to absolute temperature, for a constant second current, for example, the control voltage is generated by obtaining the difference between the band gap current.
