A method for preparing magnesium chloride anhydride is provided to perform an environment-friendly and simple dehydration process, as compared with the conventional process for dehydrating magnesium chloride hydrate under a hydrochloric acid atmosphere. A method for preparing magnesium chloride anhydride includes the steps of: (a) dissolving magnesium oxide in a hydrochloric acid aqueous solution to prepare a magnesium chloride aqueous solution; (b) adding an ammonium chloride aqueous solution into the magnesium chloride aqueous solution to prepare an ammonium magnesium chloride hexahydrate solution; (c) heating the ammonium magnesium chloride hexahydrate solution, and performing decompression concentration to collect ammonium magnesium chloride hexahydrate crystals; and (d) heat-treating the ammonium magnesium chloride hexahydrate.
