Date May 9, 1997A filter for filtering lubricating oil or fuel for an internal combustion engine is disclosed herein. The filter includes a filter housing having an inner end for connection to a connection flange associated with the internal combustion engine and an outer end connected to a detachable cover. The inner end of the housing includes a filter inlet duct, a filter return duct, and a plurality of coaxially spaced radial filter seals for providing a seal between the filter housing and the connection flange. The connection flange includes a connection inlet duct in matching registry with the filter inlet duct, a connection return duct in matching registry with the filter return duct, and a plurality of coaxially spaced sealing surfaces each in matching registry with a respective one of the radial filter seals. A locking connection is provided for securing the filter housing against the connection flange at a plurality of said angular positions with respect to the connecting flange.
