内燃機関の制御方法は、第1燃料噴射により筒内に理論空燃比よりもリーンな混合気を形成し、混合気が圧縮行程において低温酸化反応を起こしている期間中に、点火プラグの放電チャンネル近傍に向けて燃料を噴射する第2燃料噴射を行い、第2燃料噴射の後、第2燃料噴射で噴射された燃料に点火プラグの火花が届くタイミングで点火プラグによる火花点火を行う。
