自動車用エンジンなどの内燃機関に用いられるエンジンバルブに封入される金属ナトリウムは高純度であることが好ましいが、従来は、この金属ナトリウムの表面微細孔内に残存する有機溶媒に関しては殆ど関心が払われていなかった。表面微細孔中に有機溶媒を含有する金属ナトリウム(60)を密閉した溶融タンク(12)に収容し、加熱及び減圧により、前記金属ナトリウム中の前記有機溶媒を気化させ除去する。
