PURPOSE: To obtain the subject antiallergic agent containing an optically active alcohol expressed by a specific formula as an active ingredient, having an excellent antiallergic action, and useful as a medicine for treating allergic diseases such as allergic rhinitis. CONSTITUTION: This antiallergic agent contains optically active R-(-)-α-[(tert- butylamino)methyl]-2-chloro-4-hydroxybenzylalcohol of the formula or its pharmacologically acceptable salt as an active ingredient. The salt includes acid adduct salts, e.g. the salt of an organic acid such as tartaric acid, and alkali adduct salts, e.g. the inorganic salt of an alkali metal such as Na.
