PURPOSE:To obtain a cycloalkanol such as cyclohexanol, etc., useful as a raw material for nylon in high efficiency by hydrating a cycloalkene in the presence of a catalyst consisting of a crystalline aluminoferrosilicate having a specific composition. CONSTITUTION:A 5-8C cycloalkene (preferably cyclohexene) is hydrated preferably at 70-150 deg.C in the presence of a catalyst consisting of a crystalline aluminoferrosilicate having an SiO2/Al2O3 molar ratio of 20-150 and an Fe2O3/Al2 O3 molar ratio of >=0.5. The crystalline aluminoferrosilicate is preferably produced usually by using a silica source such as silica sol, an alumina source such as aluminum sulfate and an Fe2O3 source such as ferric sulfate, subjecting the sources to hydrothermal synthesis at 70-200 deg.C, optionally calcining the product to remove organic components, and subjecting the obtained crystalline aluminosilicate to ion-exchange treatment. The reaction pressure of the hydration reaction of the cycloalkene is preferably maintained at or above the pressure necessary to keep the cycloalkene in liquid state.
