PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper conveyance device capable of specifying the presence or absence of abnormality and type of abnormality of the device, and to provide an image forming device. SOLUTION: This paper conveyance device is provided with: a pair of paper conveyance roller 406 and a back-up roller 407 for conveying paper on a conveyance path 408; a stepping motor 401 for driving the paper conveyance roller 406; a driver 402 for driving and controlling the stepping motor 401; and a current detection part 403 for detecting a value of current to be supplied into the driver 402. Since there is the relationship, [the normal time of the stepping motor 401]> [the time when roller pressure of the back-up roller 407 is insufficient] > [the time when the stepping motor 401 loses synchronism] with respect to an average value of the current values, the presence or absence of abnormality and type of abnormality (insufficient roller pressure of the back-up roller, loss of synchronism of the stepping motor) of the paper conveyance device are specified depending on the value of current to be supplied into the driver 402, for example, magnitude of the average value (integrated current value/detection period) of the current values in a detection period.
