PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device of a continuously variable transmission for a vehicle capable of improving fuel economy and operability with restriction of noise and vibration by appropriately avoiding shift down when shift mode is switched from a continuously variable shift mode to a stepped shift mode in the case wherein the vehicle runs at the predetermined constant speed. SOLUTION: The control device of a continuously variable transmission for a vehicle is provided with a continuously variable shift mode carry-out means 3 for carrying out the continuously variable shift mode for continuously setting shifting ratio of the continuously variable transmission 40, a stepped shift mode carry-out means 3 for carrying out the stepped shift mode for setting the shifting ratio of the continuously variable transmission 40 to one of a plurality of shift stages, a shift mode setting means 3 for setting shift mode to one of the continuously variable shift mode and the stepped shift mode, and a shifting ratio holding means 3 for holding the shifting ratio of the continuously variable transmission 40 at the set shifting ratio till the time when switching in the case wherein the vehicle V runs at the predetermined constant speed.
