To provide a method for purifying a lactone compound which, after extracting a lactone compound from a reaction product obtained by subjecting a cyclic acid anhydride to a reduction reaction, enables easy pulverization of the lactone compound when it is recovered as a solid and can raise a reaction temperature in the next step when the lactone compound is not recovered as a solid.SOLUTION: A method for purifying a lactone compound comprises: obtaining an extract by extracting a lactone compound represented by the following formula (2) with an extraction solvent from a reaction product obtained by subjecting a cyclic acid anhydride represented by the following formula (1) to a reduction reaction; and adding to the extract a hydrocarbon-based solvent, which has a boiling point of 120°C or higher and is higher boiling than the extraction solvent, followed by concentration to substitute the extraction solvent with the hydrocarbon-based solvent.SELECTED DRAWING: None
