To propose a heat pump type water heater capable of suppressing lowering in the amount of hot water in a hot water storage tank.SOLUTION: A heat pump type water heater includes: a hot water storage tank (20); a heat pump unit (100); a circulation pump (P) for circulating hot water in the hot water storage tank (20) via a water heat exchanger (2); and a control device (10) for controlling the heat pump unit (100) and the circulation pump (P). In the case where, during a second boiling operation in which the hot water circulated by the circulation pump (P) is heated by the water heat exchanger (2) and the hot water in the hot water storage tank (20) is boiled, the hot water stored in the hot water storage tank (20) is tapped, or in the case where hot water tapping of the hot water stored in the hot water storage tank (20) is predicted, the operation is switched to a first boiling operation in which the rotational frequency of the circulation pump (P) is lower than that during the second boiling operation.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
