To provide a slide member in which shear between a slide layer and a back metal layer hardly occurs in comparison with a conventional one, and which has firm joint.SOLUTION: A slide member is provided including a back metal layer having a back surface and a joint surface, and a slide layer disposed on the joint surface of the back metal layer. The back metal layer is composed of an Fe alloy, the slide layer is composed of a copper alloy including 0.5-12 mass% of Sn, and balance Cu with unavoidable impurities. A cross-sectional structure in a direction vertical to the slide surface of the slide layer has copper alloy crystal grains kept into contact with the joint surface of the back metal layer, and copper alloy crystal grains not kept into contact with the joint surface of the back metal layer. When an average crystal grain size of the copper alloy crystal grains kept into contact with the joint surface of the back metal layer is D1, and an average crystal grain size of the copper alloy crystal grains not kept into contact with the joint surface of the back metal layer is D2, D1 is 30-80 μm, and D1/D2=0.1-0.3.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
