To provide a method for producing an oil-in-water type emulsion cosmetic by reducing a content of an emulsifier while containing a fine particle metal oxide to an extent so that an ultraviolet protection effect is obtained and a relatively large amount of oily components and to provide an oil-in-water type emulsion cosmetic produced by the method.SOLUTION: There are provided: a method for producing an oil-in-water type emulsion cosmetic which comprises a step of adding a water phase containing a hydrophilic emulsifier to an oil phase containing a surface-hydrophobized fine particle metal oxide, a lipophilic emulsifier, a sodium acrylate/acryloyl dimethyltaurine sodium copolymer and a liquid oil to obtain an oil-in-water type emulsion cosmetic by phase inversion emulsification; and an oil-in-water type emulsion cosmetic obtained by the method.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
