Embodiments of the present invention provides a non-tethered devices for measuring characteristics along the underground wellbore. According to at least one embodiment, the non-tethered device includes a housing, and one or more sensors configured to measure the data along the underground wellbore. Data may include one or more physical underground wellbore, chemical, including geological or structural properties. Non tethered device controls the one or more sensors for measuring the data, a processor configured to store the measurement data, so that the measurement data is transmitted to a receiver located outside of the underground wellbore further comprising a configured transmitter. Furthermore, non-tethered device controls the buoyancy or drag non tethered device includes a controller configured to control the position of the non-tethered devices underground wellbore. The processor includes an instruction that defines the measurement parameters for the one or more sensors of the non-tethered devices underground wellbore.
