The present invention introduces a scanning arrangement and method suitable for the coating process utilizing laser ablation. This configuration is suitable for long-term industrial processes. This arrangement comprises a target (15) having an annular shape. The laser beam direction (12) is controlled by a rotating mirror (13) located along the central axis of the annular target (15). Scanning lines, when a mirror (13) rotates, rotates in a circle along the inner target surface. The focus of the laser beam (12) may be arranged so as to be positioned on the inner surface of the target in order to ensure a constant spot size. Ring-shaped, cylindrical or frusto-conical targets (15) can be used. Thus, the inner surface of the target may be in a tapered shape in order to control the emission direction of the ablated material toward the substrate to be coated (17) (16).
