Some embodiments of the present invention, by spectroscopy to measure at least two hemoglobin species in the patient's blood sample, and provides a system for measuring at least the pH of the blood sample by the biosensor. The system includes a disposable cartridge suitable for insertion into the slot of the analyzer, and uses the results to monitor the acid-base status of the patient. Monitoring method for acid-base status of the patient using the present system are also provided.
