High-resolution 3D images may be encoded in the base layer (BL) video signals and enhancement layer (EL) first multiplexing image frame and the second multiplex image frames in the video signal. For 3D image processing and rendering, the encoded symmetric resolution image data may be delivered to various different devices. At the receiving side device, it is possible to reconstruct a low-resolution 3D images from one of the first multiplex image frame or the second multiplex image frames. At the receiving side device, it is also possible to reconstruct a high-resolution 3D image by combining the high resolution image data from both of the first multiplex image frame and the second multiplex image frames.
