PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for optical resolution of (3,4-dimethoxy-bicyclo[4.2.0]octa-1,3,5-trien-7-yl)nitrile, and to provide a method for synthesis of ivabradine, of its addition salts with a pharmaceutically acceptable acid and of their hydrates.SOLUTION: There is provided: a method for optical resolution of a compound represented by formula (I) by chiral chromatography; and application in the synthesis of ivabradine, of its addition salts with a pharmaceutically acceptable acid or of their hydrates.
