PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steel cord for reinforcing a rubber article that is excellent in properties of a treated material after being coated with rubber, and a pneumatic radial tire including the same.SOLUTION: The steel cord for reinforcing a rubber article 10 comprises: a core comprising M pieces of core filaments 1; and N pieces of sheath filaments 2 twisted around the core. Provided that the diameter of the core filament 1 is d1 and the diameter of the sheath filament 2 is d2, d1>d2, and provided that the average preforming rate of the core filament 1 is H1 and the average preforming rate of the sheath filament 2 is H2, H1>H2.
