PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for using 2,3-dimethoxy-5-methyl-6-(10-hydroxydecyl)-1,4-benzoquinone (idebenone) as a cell membrane antioxidant and a synthetic analog of coenzyme Q10 that avoids the strong first pass metabolism observed after oral administration of, and thus allows to avoid undesired side effects caused by high doses of the active agent.SOLUTION: The method is disclosed for using idebenone by a medicament for transmucosal administration. The medicament in the method for use is preferably in the form of a suppository, drop, chewing gum, fast dissolving tablet or spray. The medicament is preferably administered via the nasal mucosa, the oral mucosa or the colon mucosa.
