PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of efficiently and accurately coupling mold sections together to form a contact lens mold assembly.SOLUTION: A mold assembly that comprises a cavity containing a polymerizable composition is formed with a first mold part and a second mold part. An elongated element is placed to pass through a peripheral region of each of the mold parts. The elongated element is welded to the first mold part and the second mold part, to form an ophthalmic lens mold assembly.
