PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photoelectric conversion element which can heighten photoelectric conversion efficiency.SOLUTION: The photoelectric conversion element comprises: a wavelength conversion section which generates electrons and holes upon absorption of light and combines the generated electrons and holes to generate monochromatic light; and a photoelectric conversion section having a pn junction or a pin junction which generates electrons and holes by absorbing the monochromatic light generated by the wavelength conversion section and moves separately the electrons and holes generated by absorbing the monochromatic light. The wavelength conversion section is disposed on the upstream side of a light advance direction than the photoelectric conversion section. The wavelength conversion section includes a carrier generation part which generates electrons and holes, a light-emitting part which generates monochromatic light, and a carrier selection and movement part which is provided between the carrier generation part and the light-emitting part. The carrier selection and movement part moves to the light-emitting part those electrons and holes generated by the carrier generation part which have a specific energy difference.
