PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carbon fiber composite material having excellent mechanical properties such as toughness and strength, and a brake member, a structural member for semiconductor, a heat resistant panel and a heat sink, all of which use the carbon fiber composite material. SOLUTION: The carbon fiber composite material is obtained by mixing carbon fiber with a resin, subsequently molding the mixture and carbonizing the molded product, and subjecting the resultant carbonized product to melt impregnation with silicon, wherein the interplanar spacing d002 of the carbon (002) plane of the carbon fiber as measured by an X-ray diffraction method is 3.46 to 3.51. The brake member, the structural member for semiconductor, the heat resistant panel and the heat sink, all of which use this carbon fiber composite material, are provided.
