PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology for an imaging apparatus capable of effectively utilizing the dynamic range of an imaging means and generating a favorable synthetic image by taking multiple shots that suitably reflect the luminance difference of a subject.SOLUTION: In an imaging apparatus, a luminance difference of a subject is detected from maximum and minimum luminance values Bmax, Bmin obtained on the basis of a luminance histogram HG, for example. Next, an exposure control value Budr of a bright part reference having an exposure level difference ΔB obtained by multiplying the luminance difference by a coefficient k (e.g., 0.5) and an exposure control value Bovr of a dark part reference are set with a proper exposure value Bcnt in normal imaging (in the case of one time of imaging) therebetween. Two shots set to the exposure control values Budr, Bovr are performed and image portions extracted from two images captured by an image sensor are synthesized to generate a synthetic image.
