PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composition for treating muscle-associated diseases containing follistatin or its functional fragment.
SOLUTION: A method is to block the influence over cell of protein chosen from a group consisting of a growth and differentiation factor 8 (GDF-8), and bone morphogenetic protein 11 (BMP-11), and includes medicating cell with the follistatin of an effective amount for diseases relevant to the influence of GDF-8 or BMP-11 over nerve or muscle.
