PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber for a fiber laser that actualizes a fiber laser of high beam quality and high output by suppressing induced Raman scattering. SOLUTION: The optical fiber for the fiber laser is composed of: an optical fiber 4 having a clad 3 formed around a core 2 to which a rare earth element is added; and a photonic band gap fiber 6 disposed at a predetermined position of the optical fiber 4 and having a clad 8 with a plurality of holes 33b formed around a hollow core 7. The photonic band gap fiber 6 has a band gap including the wavelength of laser light L1 propagated in the optical fiber 4 and not including the wavelength of Raman scattered light generated when the laser light L1 is propagated.
