PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a D-aminotransferase which can efficiently produce monatin having a high content of (2R,4R)-monatin having a high degree of sweetness. SOLUTION: There are provided a mutated D-aminotransferase in which an amino acid residue at least at one of positions (positions 243 and 244) involved in effective formation of (2R,4R)-monatin of amino acid sequences exhibiting specific sequences of a wild-type D-aminotransferase is substituted; a wild-type D-aminotransferase exhibiting a specific sequence; and a method for producing monatin using the mutated D-aminotransferase.
