PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a passive optical network, (PON), system in which a plurality of types of ONU having different signal transmission speeds can be connected to a single OLT.
SOLUTION: A station-side optical line terminator (OLT), connected to a plurality of types of ONU of different signal transmission speeds through an optical distribution network, includes: an optical transmission and reception unit 101 coupled with the optical distribution network; a transmission and reception line interface 102 connected to a wide-area network; a down frame processor 121 for converting, at the transmission and reception line interface, a packet received from the wide-area network into a down frame containing identification information of a destination ONU in a header; and a down transmission controller 124 for modulating the down frame at a speed corresponding to the signal transmission speed of the destination ONU and providing the modulated frame as output to an electrical/optical converter connected to the optical transmission and reception unit.
