PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a non-phosphorus and non-sulfur additive suitable for use as an antiwear additive, an antifatigue additive, and an extreme pressure agent, and a method for using these additives in a lubricating oil composition. SOLUTION: The method for forming an antiwear film on an internal engine component comprises: a step for contacting a surface of an internal wearing component of the engine with a tetra-functional hydrolyzable silane compound of the general formula: Si-X 4 (wherein, X is independently selected from the group consisting of hydroxy, an alkoxy, an aryloxy, an acyloxy, amino, a monoalkyl amino and a dialkyl amino) or a hydrolysis product thereof; and a step for hydrolyzing and condensing the tetra-functional silane to thereby form a film.
