PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an altered document management apparatus capable of determining the fraudulent alteration of a document on the basis of image data read from the document.
SOLUTION: TheA document management apparatus 2 uses approximately uniform light to read first image data from a document and uses light rays with which the surface of the document is irradiated obliquely, two read second image data from the document. A user displays and compares the read two image data to discriminate ruggedness (e.g. an erasure mark by an eraser) on the surface of the document. Furthermore, the document management apparatus 2 issues a time stamp certificate for a pair of two image data thus read from the same document. Thus, the authenticity of the read two image data is guaranteed.
