PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for manufacturing a porous glass preform in which the deposition of soot on the upper surface (ceiling) is prevented to suppress the stripping/ falling down from the upper surface.
SOLUTION: In the apparatus for manufacturing the porous glass preform 4 by depositing glass fine particles produced by the flame hydrolysis reaction of a gaseous starting material on a starting member 1 arranged vertically, a plurality of intake ports 5 are provided along the ceiling of the reaction chamber on the side wall of a reaction chamber provided with a burner 2 for deposition.
