PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To assure uniform coating, of a plasticizer to a filter tow strip as far as possible, in coating the plasticizer on the filter tow strip, in a method and an apparatus for preparation of the strip comprising a filter material, especially the filter tow strip in the tobacco processing industry in which the strip is drawn and the coating material is applied on the strip during its conveying. SOLUTION: This invention relates to the apparatus in which the filter tow strip 2 is drawn in a drawing machine 6 and the coating material is sprayed to the strip 2 in a coating machine 47 during convey of the filter tow strip 2 from a stocker to an after treating machine, wherein a relaxation section 8 for the strip 2 is arranged before and/or after the coating machine 47.
