PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic gear change operating device for a vehicle which is easy of an arbitrary setting of the pressing amount of a push knob, and at the same time, which can correspond to ones of various kinds of configurations, and can reduce the manufacturing cost. SOLUTION: This automatic gear change operating device for a vehicle has a shift lever 1, the push knob 1d which can be pressed, a wrong operation preventing window section 12, a rod locking pin 1c which is lowered by the pressing operation of the push knob 1d, and a locking means. In this case, the locking means can be engaged with the wrong operation preventing window section 12, and at the same time, of which the engagement is released when the rod locking pin 1c is lowered, and which allows the rocking motion of the shift lever 1 from a specified position. In the automatic gear change operating device for the vehicle, the locking means is arranged to be urged to the side for regulating the rocking motion of the shift lever 1 while being freely turnable around the turning shaft formed on the shift lever 1. At the same time, the locking means comprises a turning member 8 having a protuberance section 8b which can be engaged or disengaged with/from the wrong operation preventing window section by turning.
