PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric field light emission display device whose PWM clock cycles can actively be varied with luminance of inputted video data and its driving method.
SOLUTION: Provided are an arithmetic part 205 that calculates the luminance level of a video signal by unit pictures to know the extent of lightness of the whole screen, a frame memory 250 as a storage part which stores the video signal by unit pictures, a comparison part 230 which calculates a PWM clock condition signal according to the luminance level calculated by an arithmetic part 205, a PWM clock generation part 260 which generates a PWM clock from the PWM clock condition signal and outputs it to a driving part, and a driving part 270 which modulates the pulse width of driving pulses with the PWM clock to adjust the luminance, thereby representing gradations having certain luminance differences with screen information inputted when actual video is realized.
