PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an original pressure pad and an image reader which uniformly presses an original to a read surface enough to clearly read the original over its entire surface.
SOLUTION: A multi-function apparatus 1 comprises an original pressure pad 79 for pressing an original 4 to an original reading surface 71a of an image sensor 71. The original pressure pad 79 turnably supports an original pressure pad member 80 for pressing the original 4 with a rotary shaft 78, and presses it with a coil spring 82 in the direction of the original read surface 71a. The original pressure pad member 80 has a bearing hole 80d for bearing the rotary shaft 78, and the hole 80d has a larger inner diameter vertical to the original than the rotary shaft 78, and the coil spring 82 forces the rotary shaft 78 to contact the inside top end of the bearing hole 80d.
