PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an economical supply source for new biodegradable plastics. SOLUTION: Disclosed is a method for constituting a polyester biopolymer in organisms, wherein the method includes a process selecting an organism for expression of a gene encoding an enzyme necessary for synthesis of a polyhydroxyalkanoate, a process introducing into the organism an isolated structural gene encoding a polyhydroxyalkanoate polymerase through combining with a control sequence for expression of the gene in the organism, and a process supplying a substrate suitable for the expressed enzyme to synthesize the polyhydroxyalkanoate.
