PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a Co/Pd superlattice film or a Co/Pt superlattice film for obtaining the superior recording/reproducing performance in a wide temperature range in a magnetic recorder. SOLUTION: This medium is provided with a substrate and a magnetic layer formed on this substrate, and the magnetic layer is made to be the superlattice film which is the laminated body of a ferromagnetic metal layer containing Co and a nonmagnetic metal layer consisting of Pd and/or Pt, and the ferromagnetic metal layer contains further a nonmagnetic element, and the thickness of the nonmagnetic metal layer is made to be 0.8 nm or less. Also, when the torque curve of the vertical magnetic recording medium is measured by a torque meter, the polarity of a four-fold object component of the torque curve is preferably a code reverse to the polarity of a two-fold object component of the torque curve. Thus, the temperature dependency of the magnetic performance of the superlattice film is suppressed while the high quality of a recording/reproducing signal, then the high performance vertical magnetic recording medium is obtained.
