PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing quartz glass rings capable of enlarging the diameter of a quartz mother pipe with high precision in a resizing step and capable of cutting the pipe with good angularity in a relatively short period of time without crazing the glass surface in a cutting step.
SOLUTION: In the method for manufacturing quartz glass rings, the diameter of a quartz glass pipe 1 is enlarged to a prescribed value by repeating a step of enlarging the diameter of the pipe 1 by centrifugal force by rotating the pipe 1 under heating, and the pipe 1 whose diameter has been enlarged is cut in a ring shape. In the resizing step, the outside diameter of the pipe 1 is measured using a non-contact end-measuring machine with a laser. In the cutting step, the periphery of the pipe 1 is covered with a plastic sheet and the pipe 1 is rotated under support by a pair of rolls and cut with a diamond wheel.
