PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a seal between the upper and lower halves of an inner compressor discharge case. SOLUTION: The upper and lower halves 28, 30 of an inner barrel of a compressor for a turbine are bolted to each other in a state of metal-to-metal surface contact. An elongated groove 36 is provided at the edge part 34 of one of the barrel halves. An elongated composite tubular woven seal 36 is arranged in the groove, and the seal has a diameter exceeding the depth of the groove. The seal comprises an inner woven metal core 42 surrounded by an annular silica fiber layer 44 and then surrounded by a metallic foil 46 with an outer protective covering 48 of a braided stainless steel. Upon joining the upper and lower halves, the compliant seal is crushed within the groove, maintaining a seal between the barrel halves in the event of warpage of the compressor casing during turbine operation.
