PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small-sized self-starting (induction) synchronous motor of high efficiency. SOLUTION: The self-starting synchronous motor is provided with cage conductors 7 embedded in the vicinity of the outer peripheral part of a rotor core 6, and a plurality of permanent magnets 8 embedded in the inner peripheral side of the cage conductors 7. On the stator 1 side, armature windings 5 are made concentrated, and unequal gaps are formed by extending both end portions 4A of the respective teeth 4. On the rotor side 10, the arcuate permanent magnets 8 are magnetized parallel with a rotor center line 11, and cage conductors 7A are embedded in a part between the respective magnetic poles. As a result, efficiency in the case of start acceleration as an induction motor is improved and concentrated winding is realized, so that the small-sized self- starting (induction) synchronous motor can be obtained.
